Β2

Bar B2 is located in a narrow, forgotten pedestrian street in the heart of Alexandroupoli. It consists of three separate shops, owned by three separate owners, in a derelict building from 1954.
All the walls between these three shops, as well as the walls towards the back yard, were removed and the three shops were united into a single space.
The facade is made up of rotating panels, which when closed, create a single flat surface, measuring 11×4 m. When the bar opens, the rotating tables form an outdoor bar, seating, windows and the main entrance. These panels lock in specific positions and are therefore useful both outside and inside. The main entrance and the window on the opposite side frame the outside of the bar making it a more intimate and defined space. In winter, a glass partition, behind the rotating facade, ensures thermal and acoustic insulation.
During the demolitions, the main load-bearing body of the building revealed a certain rhythm to us. In order not to disturb this rhythm and in order to keep the main aspect unified, all the functions inside the bar were integrated into a single piece of concrete furniture, freely placed inside the unified space. These functions include the bar itself, the toilets and the isolated kitchen.
In order to visually expand the interior space, a concrete wall connects the interior space to the backyard, merging the interior with the exterior.
The main body with its oxidized armor was reinforced with an iron “external frame” to which the facade and iron bottle racks were welded. The floor is made of untreated black sheet metal and becomes one with the iron frame. The facade consists of 50X50 mm cross-section iron beams, which have been clad on both sides with standardized aluminum elements.
